Proraso Shaving Cream Review

Proraso Shaving Cream Review

You are going to love this Proraso Shaving Cream review. Because this is one of the best brands for shaving software.

The history of the brand goes back to 1908. Ludovico Martelli founded the company in Italy and it has survived for three generations.

Where to buy a Proraso Shaving Cream?

Luckily, you do not have to go to Italy to get one. Just read all the review below. I will give you the link to all the products of Proraso Shaving Cream.

Proraso Shaving Cream Has 4 lines of products:

  • Green (Eucalyptus and Menthol)
  • White (Green Tea and Oatmeal)
  • Red (Karite Butter and Sandal Oil)
  • Blue (Aloe Vera and Vitamin E)

Let’s go and discuss them.

Proraso Green (Eucalyptus and Menthol) Shaving Cream

This is one to get and use during the hot weather. The Eucalyptus and the Menthol will bring a fresh feeling that will wake you up.

Just squeeze a tiny bit of this cream, it will create a good amount of lather. Of course, it is best to use a shaving brush to lather. Otherwise, you will use too much amount of the cream.

The lather will be slick. This will give you a protection and the glide that you need while shaving.

One dislike…

I do not like the metal tube. It is like an old toothpaste tube that you really need to squeeze hard to get the remainder of the cream. I am not cheap but a quarter left with a big hassle to get it is what I don’t like.

Maybe they should consider changing the tube to a plastic one. Like the modern toothpaste uses.

Proraso Green (Eucalyptus and Menthol) Shaving Soap

The shaving soap is no different from the tube in creating a good lather. You will need to prepare the soap first before using it.

Some people will recommend you pour hot water into the bowl. Not much, though. Let it sit for a couple of minutes to let the soap becomes ready. Pour out excess water.

But I prefer to…

Soak your brush in hot water for a couple of seconds. Make sure that the brush is really wet. Shake it a bit so you don’t have dripping water. Put the shaving brush on the soap. The hot water will run down to the soap and get it prepared.

Get your shaving brush ready and whisk away. You will get an amazing lather with this soap. The lather will be rich and creamy.

What People Like about Proraso Green

  • The Eucalyptus and The Menthol will give you a fresh sensation
  • Easy to lather
  • The smell is not overwhelming but nice
  • The lather is slick and creamy
  • Your skin will be pampered.

Proraso White (Green Tea and Oatmeal) Shaving Cream

This is great for sensitive skin. The oatmeal and Green Tea will soothe and protect your sensitive skin.

This variant provides a bit thicker coating than the original Green series.

Its cream is a bit thinner. You may occasionally over squeeze the tube and too much cream will squirt out. Too much shaving cream is not bad for me but you may have to buy a bit sooner.

Just use your shaving brush with this Proraso White (Green Tea and Oatmeal) Shaving Cream

And you will immediately fall in love with it.

Proraso White (Green Tea and Oatmeal) Shaving Soap

The soap was left “matured” for 10 days to get its “hard” soap form. This way makes the water evaporates from the soap. You get “more” soap from it.

All you need to do is swirl your shaving brush to load it and build your lather. Remember to close the lid after use.

Get your Proraso White (Green Tea and Oatmeal) Shaving Soap in a bowl, 150mL(5.2oz)

What People Like About Proraso White:

  • The Oatmeal and Green Tea protect your skin from irritation
  • Soothe the razor burn
  • The lather is greasy but easily wash off
  • Your skin will be moisturized

But I do not like….

The smell. It smells like medicine. I really don’t know how else to describe it. It is weak, though.

Proraso Red (Karite Butter and Sandal Oil) Shaving Cream

This variant contains Sandalwood Oil and Shea Butter. The target is a thick beard. It will soften even the toughest beard. You will have an easier shave with Proraso Red.

I really love the smell of Sandalwood. It is definitely one of my favorite fragrances. The woody smell will linger a bit. That is why I love it. The smell of the traditional barber.

The lather is creamy. I think this is the best amongst Proraso lines.

Proraso Red (Karite Butter and Sandal Oil) Shaving Soap in a Bowl

Just like other lines, the Proraso Red also comes with shaving soap in a bowl. This will come down to your preference, whether to choose a cream or a soap.

I will choose soap as it is “hard” and comes with a bowl.

Get your Proraso Red (Karite Butter and Sandal Oil) Shaving Soap in a Bowl, 150 mL (5.2oz)

What People Like About Proraso Red:

  • Sandalwood smell
  • Soften the beard
  • It is slick

Proraso Blue (Aloe Vera and Vitamin E) Shaving Cream

The Proraso Blue is the only line that does not have a shaving soap in a bowl. Proraso Blue comes with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. They give protection and moisturization for your skin. They also suitable for most skins as their properties are highly tolerable.

Because of it…

You can use this product if you have sensitive skin or acne prone skin.

This Proraso Blue has a very mild scent. The refreshing feeling (like the Proraso Green) is not present. Maybe because there is no menthol in it.

What I do not like….

The lather is not that lubricating (compared to the Proraso Green) but it is still on par with other brands out there.

This is still a great product from Proraso but it is the least amongst its brethren. Maybe this is the reason why they only provide the shaving cream. No soap in the bowl.

  1. Hi Arief,

I have actually never heard of a shaving soap before. The products sound really good. I have not heard of the brand before.

  2. Hi Arief
Nice Info you have about shaving cream and soap. this two product have the same function right? Because I only knew about shaving cream.

    1. Hi Henryan,

Yes, they have the same function. The difference is how much water that you need to build the lather. Cream needs less water because they are already “creamy”. 😀
While soap needs a bit more.

  3. I have never heard of Proraso before, but you give an excellent review of the products. Are the shaving creams ever used by women? Not on beards, but the blue or white sound like they could be used for shaving legs, especially if you have sensitive skin. Great post!

  4. Thanks for this review. I’m looking for a good shaving cream and I really like your candid comments about the smell or texture or tube material!! Not only was this a helpful review. It was a fun read! Much appreciated.

  5. Wow another person who whips their cream. My ritual is to whip up the cream in the bowl, apply pre shave oil and then shave away. Of course with a safety razor. I love using those things. 2-3 strokes and it’s smooth as butter for me. Finally I touch it up with aftershave. Happy shaving!

    1. Thank you, J.

It is almost a lost art in this modern gel foam era. I turned back to the traditional way of shaving because of that “empty” gel foam. A proper shaving cream like this Proraso gives a protection against the sharp edge of the blade. That is enough reason for me.
