Are you tired of spending all of that time preparing your face for your old school DE safety razor
Taking a shower, applying pre-shave oil, lathering up a nice shaving cream and then applying it with your shaving brush can be time-consuming. Oh, and then you have to take your time in front of a mirror to make sure you don’t cut yourself.
Well, an electric razor could be a great alternative that provides convenience and ease of use.
But with so many electric razors, how do you know which one is best for you?
In this review, I’m here to give you 5 recommendations to try and help you decide.
5 Best Electric Razors – Top Recommendations
#1 Recommendation – Braun Series 7 790CC
You will be hard-pressed to find a better electric razor out there than the Braun Series 7 790CC.
With over 6,000 reviews and a 4.4-star rating on Amazon, this is known to be the king electric razors.
They have a newer version of this model in the 799CC, but for about $100 less this provides a ton of value.
It has many features that you will enjoy:
- Intelligent Sonic Technology
- Active Lift Trimmer
- Optifoil for close cuts
- 5 action clean & charge station
- 3 shaving speeds
These features work together to produce one powerful razor that gives a superb shave.
With each blade being independently suspended as well as the head itself, this razor can easily adapt to the contours of your face allowing for more hair to be cut with each stroke.
Hopefully, this means that you will require fewer strokes during the shave and thus reducing any irritation your old razor might have caused.
It is also 100% waterproof so you can hop in the shower if you want or use this razor with your favorite shaving cream.
Don’t worry about using the cream as the clean and charge station will keep it clean and fresh for your next use.
The complaints of this razor are mixed and not one stands out from the other. Some had issues with customer’s service and others with the pop-up trimmer.
However, these were so few and far between from the over 5,000 positive reviews.
Best Electric Razor For Sensitive Skin – Philips Norelco Shaver 7300 for Sensitive Skin
If you have sensitive skin your needs and wants are obviously different from those who have thick or average beards.
Philip Norelco makes an electric shaver just for you, their Shaver 7300 for sensitive skin.
This has many of the same features as the Braun Series 7 but it is currently about $50 less.
An added feature to help with the sensitive skin are the comfort rings.
This micro bead coating is placed around each head of the rotary shaver which helps reduce friction.
This should help the razor slide easier over your skin, therefore, reducing irritation.
They also use an alcohol-free solution in their cleaning station.
Alcohol can sometimes cause irritation so this is another feature to help those of you with sensitive skin.
It seems like most of the negative reviews for this razor are from people with just too high of expectations.
Remember, electric razors will not cut as close as a blade since they need a protective foil over the blade.
Otherwise, you would be a bloody mess!
Also, it may take a couple passes to get all the hairs, which is not uncommon for any shaver.
Best Electric Razor Under $50 – Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 2100
If you are looking for a simple, well-built razor that is affordable the Norelco 2100 could be the one for you.
With over 1,400 reviews and a 4.3-star rating, you will not only get an economical shaver but a quality shave as well.
You won’t see a fancy LCD display on this one like the others or multiple speeds or fancy features, just a quality razor that does what it is supposed to.
It features Philips close cut shaving blades that may even give a closer shave than their more expensive models according to some.
While it is not waterproof, you can wash the head.
Just be careful as if water gets in the housing unit, it can have a hard time draining which could lead to corrosion.
Another noticeable downgrade from the higher end models is the battery life is not as long. You will only get 35 minutes of shaving vs. about 50 minutes from other models.
The replacement blades are much cheaper on this razor so you will have a much lower overall cost of ownership.
However, if you have a thick beard, you may need to pay the additional money for a better razor.
This is an entry level shaver so the motor is not as powerful as the more expensive models.
Best Braun Electric Shaver – Braun Series 5 5090cc Electric Foil Shaver for Men
Braun is the self-proclaimed number one foil shaver brand in the world.
That being said, if you have an angular face you may benefit from a foil electric shaver as they tend to work better on the flat parts of your face.
If you can’t afford the Series 7 then the Braun Series 5 5090CC is my favorite Braun shaver.
It is about $50 less than the Series 7 but you really don’t lose that much so the perceived value may be a little higher here.
The LCD display is not as sophisticated and the cleaning station won’t dry your razor, but let’s be honest, these two things are not that big of a deal, right?
You still get a similar head and the actual shave will be pretty equal.
Plus, this doesn’t have the 3 speeds to choose from so that is just one less thing that can break!
Best Norelco Electric Razor – Philips Norelco 1280X/86 Shaver 8900
While it is a little more expensive, the Norelco Shaver 8900 is another popular razor with over 1,300 reviews and a 4-star rating.
The gyro flex head is very sophisticated allowing it to hug your skin with each pass allowing more hair to be cut on the contours of your face.
If you have a rounder face, a rotary shaver like this could be a great choice for you.
Philips also put larger heads on this shaver so they cover 50% more skin surface than other models.
This should result in a quicker shave with fewer strokes.
They still recommend changing the blades every 12 months like most razors and they are a little pricey for replacement blades.
However, you get what you pay for. If you want the best you have to pay the price.
Most of the negative reviews are several years old so maybe there was a bad production run at one point?
We have really just scratched the tip of the iceberg here with these 5 recommendations for the best electric shaver.
As the saying goes, your mileage may vary (YMMV), that is every man’s beard and skin type are different.
Try to think about what is important to you. Is it the cost? The closeness of the shave? The convenience?
This should help you make a better decision.
